Frequently Asked Questions

Do you talk about epidurals or medicated vs unmedicated births?

Yes! In class we discuss all possible medical interventions that your may encounter or choose during your birth. This includes how they work, what to expect and possible side effects. We believe there is no “right or wrong” way to have a baby, therefore we discuss all possibilities, including medicated and unmedicated births, from a non-judgemental perspective. What is provided is current evidence-based research and anecdotal information which can help you to make an informed decision when the time comes.

Positions, massage, guided visualization and other labour techniques are demonstrated online and practiced so you and your partner get a hands on experience. Comfy clothes are a good idea.

I always put it this way… Would you run a marathon without training first? Birth is a test of endurance;  exhausting, beautiful, magical and sometimes unexpected. While you can’t fully predict or practice your birth, you can prepare yourself physically, mentally and emotionally and this is where a good prenatal class comes in. It will provide you and your partner not only with information in terms of what to expect during the entire birth process and how to manage with pain or discomfort,  but also what to expect postpartum and that first month home with the baby. Having a solid knowledge of the process and what can happen results in a more empowered and fulfilling birth experience. Plus, it helps your partner a great deal! Our class spends a lot of time highlighting the importance of your partner or birth support and gives them tips and techniques to help support you!

The Hypnobirthing class is another amazing option we offer at Yoga Mamas. While there are some similarities in terms of coping strategies used in labour and birth, HypnoBirthing education is based on a particular method of guided visualizations and relaxation (called The Mongan Method).
